92% automation of composition and QA

Reduced time to market from 2 weeks to 1 day

1-year payback on solution

Omni-channel delivery of journal articles

Automated XML publishing solution reduced content delivery from 2 weeks to 1 day

Like many scientific journal publishers, market demands were driving ACS to find a way to publish more journals, in more formats while improving content quality and reducing publication time.

Scientific and scholarly publishing processes are complex and need to manage large page volumes and the inclusion of special scientific elements such as complex tables, MathML equations, referee lists and chemistry charts. GPSL worked to overcome these complexities and deliver an automated solution to expedite steps in the publishing process, allowing scientific research output to reach readers faster.

The Journal Composition Automation initiative successfully achieved the following across all of ACS journal publications:

  • Reduced time to publication and market for existing and new products
  • Reduce production and operational costs
  • Automated all typographical quality assurance processes in the publishing workflow
  • High throughput, with no intervention during composition process
  • No loss of quality for auto-composed articles
  • Ability to handle special scientific elements such as complex tables, MathML equations, references lists, chemistry charts and schemes
  • Integration with existing Documentum CMS
  • Integration with third party composition vendor workflows
