Case Study

Product catalogue processing time reduced by 60%

Sigma-Aldrich (now Millipore-Sigma) wanted to rethink and reengineer their publishing process to improve quality, accuracy, and efficiency

Case Study

Sigma-Aldrich (now Millipore-Sigma) had over 170,000 products sold via ecommerce and printed catalogs across several brands, in multiple languages and currencies.

They therefore needed a solution that enhance collaboration, reduced costs and sped up production cycles while maintaining a high degree of quality assurance throughout their publishing process.

The company built a four-tier strategy for product information:

  • Allow for multiple and dynamic page layouts

In order to meet the demands of the dynamic publishing requirements and an increasing content load, GPSL applied a web publishing workflow to a print environment.

The system married standard CSS with large content files to produce printed catalogs and newsletters. This provided the flexibility to build stylesheets as needed by allowing designers to create and update layouts for each brand and applying them to content sources exceeding 50,000 products.

Results
  • Dynamic page layout & formatting
  • Reduced catalog processing time by 60%
  • Reduced page production time by 50%
  • Throughput for catalogs increased by more than 200%
